What To Expect
What is Physical Therapy?
Xcel Physical Therapy & Wellness is a premier rehabilitation and wellness center dedicated to helping patients recover from injuries, manage chronic pain, and improve their overall physical health through personalized, evidence-based care.
What happens during my first visit?
During your first visit, our licensed physical therapist will perform a comprehensive evaluation, review your medical history, discuss your concerns and goals, conduct a physical assessment, and develop a customized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and goals.
How long does the first appointment take?
Your initial evaluation typically lasts approximately 60 minutes. This allows our therapist enough time to thoroughly assess your condition and answer all your questions.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
To ensure a smooth first visit, please bring:
- Your insurance card
- A valid photo ID
- Physician referral (if required by your insurance)
- Any relevant medical records or imaging reports (X-rays, MRI, CT scans)
- List of current medications
- Comfortable clothing
What should I wear to my appointment?
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to the area being treated. For example, shorts for knee or hip issues, or a tank top for shoulder or neck problems.
Do I need a doctor's referral to visit Xcel Physical Therapy?
In most states, you can visit us directly without a physician's referral through Direct Access. However, we recommend checking with your insurance provider as some plans may require a referral for coverage. Medicare will require a prescription for physical therapy to cover services.
What does a typical treatment session look like?
Each session includes one-on-one care with your therapist and may consist of:
- Manual therapy techniques
- Therapeutic exercises
- Modalities like heat, ice, or electrical stimulation
- Balance and coordination training
- Patient education and home exercise instruction
How long is each follow-up treatment session?
Follow-up sessions typically last 45 to 60 minutes of dedicated one-on-one care with your therapist.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies based on your condition, goals, and response to treatment. Your therapist will provide an estimated timeline during your initial evaluation and adjust it as you progress.
Will I have homework between sessions?
Yes. Your therapist will provide a customized home exercise program to complement your in-clinic treatment. Consistent home exercises speed up recovery and help maintain long-term results.
Will I experience pain during treatment?
Your therapist will continuously monitor your comfort level. Some treatments may cause mild discomfort, but we always prioritize your safety and well-being. We encourage you to communicate any concerns.
How will I know if I'm improving?
We track your progress using objective measures such as:
- Pain scales
- Range of motion measurements
- Strength testing
- Functional assessments
- Balance and gait analysis
You'll receive regular updates on your improvement throughout your treatment journey.
What happens after my treatment ends?
Upon discharge, you will receive:
- A comprehensive home exercise program
- Guidance on maintaining your progress
- Preventive strategies to avoid future injuries
- A discharge summary sent to your referring physician (if applicable)
What insurance plans do you accept?
We accept most major insurance plans, including Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance. Our team will verify your benefits and handle all insurance paperwork on your behalf.
What if I have more questions?
